Professional coffee tasters have the privilege of enjoying samples of several different brews and flavors of coffee on a regular basis. These professionals are called "Cuppers" and they sample coffee to judge competitions, to write their opinion in reviews in newspapers or magazines and for marketing. But why should they have all the fun.
It is easy to step into the shoes of the professionals, of course for enjoyment purposes only. Cuppers judge coffee based on smell, taste, acidity and several other characteristics. Why not gather a variety of coffees and try to do the same?
To start it is good to remember that the water you use can affect the taste of your coffee. It is better to use bottled water or water that has been filtered. Water softeners often leave water with a bit of the taste of the salt used for softening. Tap water will also adopt the taste of things it is exposed to and therefore change the taste of your coffees. So be sure you choose you water source carefully.
