Coffee shops are one of the fastest growing businesses. Leading the high demand for coffee is the United States with 400 million cups of coffee consumed by Americans per day. 14 billion coffee espressos are consumed in Italy each year. So, there is no doubt that coffee is popular, but, is coffee healthy?

Well, if you read the literature, there does not seem to be a clear cut answer to that question. So, we'll address the good and the bad. First, there are some potential health concerns for coffee drinkers. On the flip side, if used in moderation or in certain circumstances, coffee can have health benefits. So, let's find out about these concerns and benefits.

Health Problems Related to Coffee and Caffeine

Adrenal Fatigue can result from over-consumption of coffee. This is when your adrenal glands become exhausted from over-stimulation. The caffeine in coffee is a nervous system stimulant, which causes your body to produce adrenaline. Adrenaline is the hormone that regulates heart rate, blood pressure and respiration. It is the adrenaline rush from caffeine that gives coffee drinkers the extra "go" to keep up with the heavy demands of their busy lifestyles. Becoming dependent on this adrenaline rush is part of what makes coffee and caffeine addictive. Failing to nurture your adrenals can have detrimental side effects. Our adrenals are necessary for producing hormones, which directly influences the operation of other body systems. If the adrenals become depleted and can no longer keep up with the energy demands you are placing on them, your health will suffer and you will be like a car without fuel or a car that has just gone head on into a rock wall.

An acidic pH environment is created in the body when there are too many negative influences from acidic food, thoughts, toxins and stressors. The pH balance of the body can range from alkaline, neutral to acidic. Coffee is very acidic with over 200 different acids including uric acid from the breakdown of caffeine. Many health problems such as arthritis arise in the body when it is acidic.

Mineral deficiency can arise from the over-consumption of coffee. Some nutrients are blocked from absorption and excessively secreted through urination with the consumption of coffee. Necessary minerals for the body such as magnesium, calcium, potassium, iron and other trace minerals are at risk of depletion for those who drink coffee.

Blood sugar swings such as hypoglycemia can be induced by coffee consumption. Caffeine taxes both the pancreas and the liver by forcing them to produce glycogen and insulin on a double duty rollercoaster. This excessive push of up and down can result in blood sugar swings. Your blood sugar balance is directly connected to hormone balance and fat metabolism.

Health Symptoms that Can Arise from Over-Consumption of Coffee and Caffeine

Fatigue

Anxiety, nervousness, irritability

Irritable bowel syndrome, colitis, diarrhea and other digestive ailments

Yeast overgrowth, candidiasis

Hypoglycemia, diabetes

Dizziness

Gout

Heart palpitations or other heart disorders

High blood pressure

High cholesterol

Insomnia

Heartburn

Liver and gallbladder problems

Bladder and kidney disorders

Headaches or migraines

Ulcers, stomach problems

Osteoporosis

Hormone imbalance

PMS

Severe menopause symptoms

Skin eruptions, rashes, acne, eczema

Urinary tract infections

Weight gain

Fibrocystic breast disease

Infertility

Miscarriage

Low baby birth weight

Enlarged prostate

Arthritis

Fibromyalgia

Memory lapse

Moodiness

Lack of concentration

Okay, now on to the flip side of drinking coffee. What if any are the benefits?

If coffee and caffeine consumption is kept to a minimum and not abused, there are some potential health benefits. Some studies suggest that many people can safely drink one to two cups of coffee per day. However, if you are a coffee drinker, what is safe for you may vary. Listen to your body. If you are noticing any of the health problems noted above, consider that coffee might just be the culprit.

Potential Health Benefits of Drinking Coffee

In some studies caffeine has shown to improve focus and memory.

Coffee and caffeine has been documented to assist athletes in performance and overcoming fatigue.

Coffee consumption helps regulate bowel function.

Coffee contains antioxidants, which are highly beneficial to our body for fighting free radicals.

In some studies, coffee has shown promise in lowering the risk of Parkinson's disease.

Ultimately, whether coffee is healthy or not comes down to your own personal body and how sensitive or not you are to its affects.

If you are a coffee drinker, you might want to access your relationship to coffee. Are you addicted to it? Can you quit for a day or two without negative side effects? Does it cause you to experience negative symptoms? Are you using coffee as a crutch to get through the day instead of for occasional enjoyment? Can you drink large amounts of coffee with little reaction? This may be a sign that your adrenals are overloaded and no longer responding to stimulus.

If you've accessed your coffee consumption habits and coffee is affecting your health in negative ways, first consider giving up coffee or cutting back, and secondly consider supporting your body with some additional nutrients through improved diet and high quality supplements.

With some things in life, a little goes a long way and moderation is the best advice.

Coffee tables have been around as long as household furniture. They have always been an important part of the dcor of your home. In addition, you'd be amazed at the hundreds of different styles and sizes that are now available to help in your decorating. One of the newer, very popular styles of coffee tables is the fire pit coffee table. If you're wondering what this is, it's exactly what the name implies. By day, you have a decorative attractive coffee table and by night a functional fire pit.

Your guests will love the warm cozy atmosphere they get from your fire pit coffee table. They'll soon ask where they can get one as well. If you're concerned about the safety of these unique pieces, you can rest assured. Not only are they attractive and functional but also safe and clean. These are available in many stores that sell outdoor equipment as well as numerous online stores. They come in a variety of styles to suit the dcor of your deck or patio.

One tip that needs to be heeded when considering the purchase of fire pit coffee tables is not to buy one that requires you burn real wood. If you've ever burned real wood for your home heating or know someone with a real wood fireplace, you understand the reasoning. Real wood is not only hazardous but is also messy and dirty. If you own a brick fireplace, it can contain the fire in a way not possible with these tables because there's not a cover to contain the sparks.

Most people that purchase fire pit coffee tables, choose the ones with ceramic logs that use alcohol-based fuel that is vent free. Your guests will not notice that you are not burning real wood as they'll see and hear the same beautiful flames that are crackling and snapping like a real fireplace. You won't have the worry that you'd have with dangerous sparking, however. Because the logs are burned with vent free fuel, it's perfectly safe on your deck or enclosed patio. These fire pit tables add the perfect touch to any outdoor barbeque or social gathering.

You're probably wondering by now where you can get these tables. Your local discount stores may not carry them because the styles they usually carry are high quality tables for your living room or family room indoors. But, you will find many online stores that sell fire pit tables.

Buying online has become very popular in recent years. You can avoid the waiting in line, the hustle and bustle of crowded stores and may get some great prices. Another advantage of shopping online is the convenience. How many times have you gone from store to store only to not find what you're looking for? If you're like me, many times. When you shop online, you can take advantage of an online search engine. You type, in this case, "fire pit coffee tables", and you'll get a list of all the online sites that carry them. This will save you a lot of time for browsing.

Many of the online sites are secure, which is a concern for many. Many name brand stores also have online stores so you can shop both ways. Don't waste another minute. Go online and search for the best buy on these tables.

Author Jennifer Akre, owner of many sites dedicated to indoor and outdoor home decor product and information, provides online consumers with advice on purchasing the most relaxing patio furniture and most elegant outdoor furniture to enjoy the simple pleasures of summer.

Connoisseurs of espresso insist on the finest coffee beans, and a golden-rich crema however they are just as insistent on the cup it is served in. Espresso served in a typical coffee mug amounts to little more than overly strong, bitter coffee. Espresso cups are created specifically for espresso. They may be petite in size but they are immense in the presentation of a proper espresso.

Espresso is a small, usually 1 to 2 oz., shot of strong, bitter coffee. But, it is so much more than that. The name "espresso" comes from the Italian meaning "pressed out". Using a steam and water in a special machine, a finely ground dark coffee is pressed out. The resulting drink is an extremely concentrated amount of coffee with a thin layer of froth, called the crema, on the top. Typically, it is consumed black, as it is served, but it can be sweetened if desired.

The Cup

Traditionally espresso cups are small and dainty, usually 2-3 oz. in size. The cup is just a little bigger than the serving size of the drink. This allows room for toppings, should they be desired. Additionally, the aroma is able to be savored, much like with wine. In Italy is not unusual to see people breathing in the aroma as they hold the cup and saucer.

There are many different types of cups available. This doesn't necessarily mean that you should use them. Today's fast paced world has pushed out very sturdy yet disposable products and cups didn't get left out. They are available in sturdy plastic and glass; however they are traditionally porcelain.

True Italian espresso cups are made of thick walled porcelain and hand painted with various designs. These cups are sometimes referred to as a demitasse, French for "half a cup". Oftentimes the espresso is allowed to drip directly into the demitasse, this allows the crema to form a beautiful, golden top in the cup without being disturbed when poured.

Today, you can purchase cups that are double wall insulated to keep the espresso hot longer and that have matching saucers. Regardless of old world type made of porcelain or today's insulated cups, true espresso connoisseurs are as interested in the quality and presentation as they are the espresso.

Plain or Fancy

Espresso cups can be found in plain white with matching saucers or as hand painted works of beauty. The digital age has made it possible to add even more flare and design to the cup. The one thing that you should never find is a paper espresso cup. If you do, you are not going to enjoy a true espresso as it is meant to be enjoyed. Espresso should not come in a to-go cup with a lid.

Enjoying an espresso is almost a ritualistic experience, from the brewing and serving to the inhalation of the aroma and the quick gulps of the small serving. True espresso enthusiasts will tap their cup against the saucer when they have finished.

Dear Coffee Drinker,

"Fair Trade" is a certification that is given primarily to a company that can prove, together with a specific coffee farm, that fair prices are being given to the independent farm. These are certifications that are primarily being marketed in the USA by a firm in California. For example, StarBucks may promote a certain type of coffee that is being sold as Fair Trade coffee. Not all their coffee can be sold as such because this only applies to a very few farms that hold these certifications together with the buyer. This needs to be proven to the agencies in the United States that govern this certification. Even though StarBucks sells one type of coffee that is certified Fair Trade this does not mean that all their coffee is certified. This would be an impossible task. The biggest problem is most US companies only pay the farmer or roaster Fair Trade and then they have to trust that the roaster is passing this extra money to the laborers. So the farmer gets a fair price but the laborers, many times children work for pennies a day.AND FAIR TRADE - However does not ensure that children are not used to pick coffee or that the children are given a fair price. Neither does it ensure that the migrate farm laborers are paid fair prices. Fair Trade has been great in elevating people's awareness of the coffee industry and has ensured that the coffee farmer and or roaster is getting a fair price and to a lesser extend some farmers but it has not always helped the people actually picking the coffee and completing the other coffee labor. Worse it has allowed the bigger farmers to make more money buying up the smaller farmers and making more money while the labor pool suffers. The going rate for labor has not increased in five years while Fair Trade Coffee prices have doubled. So whats fair about the owner making more while the laborers still suffer.

Worse Fair Trade has become so popular that it elevated many "bad or poor" coffees into popoluar brands - not because they taste good but because they have become Fair Trade - as that has any correlation to taste. Sadlty Fair Trade only means the large land owner gets more money.

Costa Rica on the other hand has a different system than most coffee producing countries. The coffee you purchased is from one of the best regions of coffee in the world, known as Tarrazu Costa Rica. There is a cooperative in Tarrazu known as CoopeTarrazu. StarBucks is a large buyer of CoopeTarrazu's coffee. CoopeTarrazu owns 25% of our company. CoopeTarrazu in turn is owned by approximately 1500 small to medium sized independent farms. The function of CoopeTarrazu is to get the best price for the coffees that these 1500 plus farms turn into this processing plant as a group. The profits are then divided and paid to each farmer based on his percentage interest or the amount of product supplied to CoopeTarrazu by him. The entire process is governed by the Government of Costa Rica. The overseeing body is known as ICAFE. It regulates all coffee that is processed and exported from Costa Rica. ICAFE's watchful eye makes sure that the independent farms are receiving fair market prices for the coffee they turn into CoopeTarrazu. Not only does Costa Rica have some of the best coffee in the world it also is some of the most expensive coffee in the world. The reason for this is directly linked to ICAFE's involvement in the coffee industry within Costa Rica. It makes sure that the farmers are receiving fair prices for their coffee. Our plant is registered with ICAFE for this reason. This proves that we are part of the system that makes sure our coffee is truly Fair Trade coffee even though we are not certified by the USA body known as Fair Trade. We are also owned by 3 other cooperatives in Costa Rica - CoopeVictoria, CoopePalmares, and CoopeSabalito. In other words we work with more than 8000 small farmers. Each cooperative has a significant % share in our roasting plant and these are the sources from which we draw upon for our raw product, our green bean.

There are some other functions of ICAFE, which works very closely with the Minister of Health, the Minister of Children, and the Minister of Labor. For example, ICAFE also makes sure that the Indians that come in from the jungles of Panama and Nicaragua to pick coffee during the harvest season are paid fair wages, given health insurance, and proper housing accommodations during the harvest season. They also work closely to make sure there is no exploitation of children and adult workers. Costa Rica is very much into protecting the less fortunate and overseeing their rights. This is another reason why we are proud members of ICAFE.

So if you want to make a statement and buy a coffee really making a difference - buy a Costa Rica coffee.

Sincerely,

Cambridge, Massachusetts (PRWEB) September 30, 2011

Thomas Guerriero, the CEO of WMX Group, Inc. (WEX on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange), parent company of The World Mercantile Exchange, sees a growing demand for coffee around the world. Due to this increased demand, prices are at all time highs. The London based International Coffee Organization is quoted by saying "Consumption of coffee is rising, particularly in grower nations and in emerging markets. The demand for coffee beans cannot be met". Thomas Guerriero believes this viewpoint can be challenged by introducing new small to mid sized producers of coffee around the world. Up until now there has been really no way for these farmers to enter into the global trade of coffee.

The World Mercantile Exchange will be the platform for these smaller growers and emerging markets to enter into this market and fulfill this global demand. In the past, coffee prices has increased due to how long it takes for the larger growers to expand their production, climate changes, and an increased demand due to the steady increase in our global population. With three to four years to grow a new coffee tree and the extraordinary demand around the world, if something is not done one can expect coffee prices to soar around the world indefinitely. With new problems there needs to be new answers and The World Mercantile Exchange many feel is the answer.

Anyone who loves coffee will know that there is coffee and then there is gourmet coffee. There are many brands, and three of the most popular are Miscela D'Oro, Millstone and Lavazza. Each has its pros and cons as to what makes it the brew of choice for some and not for others. The two main areas of comparison are taste and price.

Miscela D'Oro is known as one of the best brews of Italian coffee on the market. The product can be purchased pre-ground, as whole beans or espresso pods. Espresso pods are created especially for use in ESE espresso makers.

Like Lavazza, most types of Miscela D'Oro coffee are a blend of Arabica and Robusta beans. Of course, the company also has its 100 percent Arabica coffee as well for those who don't favor the Arabica-Robusta blends. Arabica provides a milder flavor and less caffeine than Robusta blends. The beans used are acquired from a number of regions such as Africa, Asia and South and Central America.

Lavazza's line of grounded or espresso is ideal for coffee drinkers who like the sweet aroma of freshly brewed coffee just before they consume it. One of the interesting things about Lavazza is that they were the first company to create different blends of coffee using beans from various countries or locations.

The beans used to create the flavor and scent of Lavazza blends are from South America or Africa. The espresso is made from either Arabica and Robusta beans combined or 100 percent Arabica alone. Like some other gourmet coffee companies, Lavazza also creates specific machines to brew their espressos in.

The beans that make up the Lavazza line come from a number of locations including South America and Africa. Its blend of African with Arabica ranks highly among even the most discerning coffee drinkers.

The ever-popular Millstone coffee comes in a number of varieties, namely organic, flavored, roasted and decaffeinated. This ensures that there is something for every type of gourmet coffee lover. Millstone also prides itself on being able to suit just about every taste. The company uses a particular species of Arabica bean grown in locations like Indonesia, Hawaii, the Caribbean and South and Central America. The seeds are specially selected and the plants are well cared for year round. Only a small portion of the large number of Arabica beans grown around the world meets Millstone's high standards.

Robusta coffee plants require less care than the Arabica variety. This is due to the fact that after they have ripened, Robusta beans remain on the plant, while Arabica beans fall off. This is what makes it necessary for the extra attention given to the Arabica plants. The beans must be periodically picked to prevent them from being wasted.

People who frequent coffee shops will find they mostly use the Arabica beans. For those who prefer the Robusta variety it can generally be found in supermarkets. The Arabica coffee tends to have a more delicate taste, while the Robusta, is stronger and has more caffeine content. Typically, Arabica is described as having a richer taste than Robusta.

The Miscela d'Oro and Lavazza coffee blends go for slightly higher prices than Millstone products. Side by side comparisons are difficult based on the wide variety of options offered by each. For those who like the taste of freshly ground coffee, any of these three have suitable offerings.

This month she features the Lavazza Gourmet Coffee brand from http://www.aromacafeculture.com
